Georgia Sigmas are well represented at 2020 Southern Region Virtual Conference

Brothers from the state of Georgia would usually gather with Phi Beta Sigma brothers of Alabama, Bahamas, Florida, and Mississippi for the Southern Region Conference, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the regional conference, which was originally scheduled for April in Birmingham, Alabama, was held online via a video conference from July 16-18. Brothers throughout the region witness Roy Edmonds preside over his final regional conference as Southern Regional Director. There was plenty of fellowship as expected. The business aspect of the conference went on as usual. By the end of virtual conference, several Georgia chapters were acknowledged for this outstanding work and several brothers from Georgia filled executive board positions and were acknowledged for milestone years in the fraternity.

Several Georgia chapters received accolades for the outstanding work in the community. The Nu Beta (Georgia Tech) and Pi Alpha (Georgia State) chapters were awarded for their outstanding collegiate chapter reports at the Bronze and Silver membership levels respectively. The Xi Chi Sigma (Atlanta) received the alumni chapter report award at the Diamond membership level. Southern Region Director of Bigger and Better Director Terrance Gibson rewarded the Tau Beta Sigma of Savannah for the Dress for Success/Interview 101 program and Phi Beta Sigma Sigma for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Walter Stephens, Director of Sigma Beta Clubs, acknowledged the Kappa Alpha Sigma (Stone Mountain) chapter for its outstanding Sigma Beta Club.

There are several brothers who marked milestones years of 50 or more years in the fraternity.

Several Georgia Sigma brothers were elected to regional board positions. Immediate Past Georgia State Director Kenneth Straughter was elected First Vice Regional Director. He recently held the regional board positions of Director of Bigger and Better Business, Georgia State Director, and Director of Strategic Planning. Lyric Cosby and Frank Wright were reelected to the Secretary and Treasurer positions respectively. Georgia State Director of Technology Ricky Moss were elected as the new Southern Region Director of Publicity. However, the biggest race was the Southern Region Director. Dr. Errick Farmer of Florida was elected as the new Southern Region Director after serving as the Southern Region First Vice Director from 2016 to 2020.
